Explore the new Cyber Safety Module for 3rd–6th class students, building essential online safety skills, privacy awareness, scam recognition, digital footprint understanding, and safe gaming practices on platforms like Roblox and Minecraft. Perfect for fostering responsible digital citizenship and empowering young learners in today’s connected world.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Cyber Safety module, now available as an additional resource within the Digital Skills Curriculum for 3rd to 6th class students. This module equips young learners with the essential knowledge and skills to engage confidently and responsibly in the digital world.
Designed with age-appropriate content, the module addresses a comprehensive range of critical topics: establishing and maintaining strong passwords, the importance of never sharing login credentials, recognising stranger danger in online environments, safeguarding personal information, identifying and avoiding scams and phishing attempts, understanding the concept and implications of a digital footprint, and—particularly relevant for this age group—practising safe behaviours while using popular gaming platforms such as Roblox and Minecraft. Through structured lessons, interactive quizzes, real-world scenarios, and reflective challenges, students develop practical strategies for safe and ethical online participation. Teachers have full access to detailed lesson plans, teaching guides, and supporting resources, seamlessly integrating into classroom routines. In an increasingly digital society, primary school children regularly interact with online platforms for learning, communication, creativity, and entertainment. While these opportunities offer significant benefits, they also introduce potential risks, including exposure to inappropriate content, unsafe interactions, privacy breaches, and deceptive practices.
The Cyber Safety module directly addresses these challenges by covering foundational practices such as password security and privacy protection, strategies for recognising and responding to stranger danger in digital spaces, awareness of scams, management of one's digital footprint to support positive online presence, and specific guidelines for safe engagement on gaming platforms like Roblox and Minecraft—including privacy settings, reporting mechanisms, and respectful community interactions. By building these competencies, the module empowers students to make informed decisions, protect their well-being, and contribute responsibly to digital communities—preparing them for safe, effective participation in a connected future.
Through participation in the Cyber Safety module, students will develop a strong foundation in digital responsibility. They will learn to:
These outcomes foster not only personal safety but also critical thinking, ethical awareness, and empathy in digital contexts—valuable life skills that extend well beyond the classroom.
Teachers and school leaders are invited to explore the Cyber Safety module as part of Coding Ireland's comprehensive primary Digital Skills Curriculum, which is free to use for anyone signed up to our platform. It is fully aligned with the evolving STE framework and designed for flexible, effective implementation in the classroom. All resources—including detailed lesson plans, teaching guides, and supporting materials—are immediately accessible upon registration.
By incorporating this module, educators can equip students with the essential tools and confidence to navigate the digital landscape securely and responsibly. We encourage you to sign up (if you haven't already) and begin exploring the full curriculum today.
