Coding Ireland - School Awards

The Coding School Awards are designed to recognise the efforts and achievements of Irish schools in teaching coding & STEM to their students.

They aim to highlight the work of teachers and schools in bringing these important subjects into the classroom and presenting new opportunities for students to learn about, use and program technology.

Get all the details on what the awards are, what are the qualifying criteria and how to apply for your school.

A teacher from the school can register with Coding Ireland and submit an application on behalf of their school. In the application the teacher can provide details of the school’s work in the different categories.

Get Started

To qualify for an award, schools must demonstrate the levels of teacher training and classroom hours dedicated to the Coding or Robotics category(s) they are applying for.

Teachers Trained in Coding Class Coding Hours per year
Coding School

For schools using either:

  • basic coding languages such as Scratch and other block based languages.
  • web programming languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • advanced programming languages such as Python, C, Java etc.
Silver 1+ 5+
Gold 3+ 10+
Platinum 3+ 30+
Robotics School

For schools programming robots, circuits, sensors, cars or other robotic kits.

Silver 1+ 5+
Gold 3+ 10+
Platinum 3+ 30+

For each category that a school qualifies for, they will receive:

An award flag for the category and level
Coding School Award Flag

A certificate for the category and level
Coding School Award Certificate

A digital badge for the category and level
Coding School Award Digital Badge

This can be displayed on the school’s website and social media

There is no cost in applying for an award. If your application is successful, there is a €40 charge for the award flag.

The flags measure 5 foot x 3 foot (152cm x 91cm) and can come with either a rope & toggle or a D ring fixing.

Yes, schools can apply for each of the available categories (Coding School, Robotics School).

Class hours refers to the total amount of hours a class has spent on Coding or Robotics in one school year.

Coding Ireland are the body that evaluates applications and presents the awards.
