This tool is designed to help educators create custom grids for educational robots, such as Bee-Bots and other similar robots that move in 15cm increments. You can generate, customise, and print grid cards that can be arranged to form interactive mats for coding and robotics activities.
Follow these steps to create custom grids for your robot activities:
Use the form on the left to select the number of rows and columns for your grid. The default size is a 4x4 grid, but you can adjust it to fit your needs.
Select an tile set from the dropdown menu. You can choose from various categories such as letters, numbers, colors, animals, etc.
Click the "Generate Grid" button to create the initial grid with the selected tiles. This will populate the grid preview on the right side of the screen.
Use the tile picker below the form to customise your grid:
Once you have finished designing your grid, follow these steps to print it:
Click the "Print Grid" button to open the printable view of your grid. This will display the grid on an A4-sized page, ready for printing.
Make sure to set the following options in your print dialog:
Click the "Print" button in the print dialog to print your grid. If you prefer to save it as a PDF, you can select "Save as PDF" instead of your printer.
After printing the grids, follow these steps to prepare them for use:
Use a pair of scissors or a paper cutter to carefully cut along the dotted lines on the printed grid sheets.
Lay out the cut grid cards in the desired arrangement on a flat surface. Make sure to align the cards correctly to form the complete grid.
Use glue or double-sided tape to stick the grid cards onto a larger sheet of paper, or cardboard. Ensure that the cards are securely attached and the grid is stable for robot activities.
For increased durability, you can laminate the grid cards before cutting them out. Laminated cards will last longer and can be easily cleaned.
If you have special clear mats with pockets, you can place each grid card into a pocket. This makes it easy to arrange and rearrange the grid without needing to stick the cards down.
