1 - Welcome to Counting
Have you ever counted your pets or favourite colours in Spanish? Today we're learning how to count from 1 to 10 in Spanish so you can talk about quantities confidently!
Numbers are everywhere - counting apples at the market, pages in a book, players on a football team. Knowing Spanish numbers helps you understand prices, phone numbers, and sports scores when speaking Spanish.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Count from uno (1) to diez (10) perfectly
- Recognise numbers when you hear them spoken
- Use numbers to describe how many pets or colours you have
2 - Spanish Numbers 1-10
Here are the Spanish numbers from 1 to 10. Click each word to hear how it's pronounced, then count along with a finger in the air!
Notice how some sound similar to English ('Cuatro' sounds like 'four'!) while others are completely different like 'ocho' for eight.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Digital Reference (Interactive)
- Display the Word Table on the whiteboard or let students access on their devices.
- Click/tap words to hear pronunciation - great for listening and speaking practice.
- Go through each word together, practising pronunciation as a class.
Option 2: Printed Reference Sheet
Download Vocabulary Sheet (PDF)
- Print the vocabulary reference sheet for students to keep as a study aid.
- Great for homework, revision, or as a take-home reference.
- Students can use it alongside the interactive activity.
3 - Listen and Count
Listen carefully to someone counting animals. Answer the questions about how many they see. This helps you recognise numbers in real conversations!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Listen & Answer activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students listen to audio and answer comprehension questions. They can replay audio as needed.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Play audio to the whole class, then discuss answers together. Replay tricky sections.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Number Matching Game
Flip the cards to match each Spanish number to its English translation or picture. Work quickly to find all the pairs - can you beat your personal best time?
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Matching Pairs activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students match words to their translations. Encourage them to say the words aloud as they match.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Make it competitive - time students or split class into teams. Have students justify their matches.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Class Counting Challenge
Your teacher will hand out worksheets. Circle the correct Spanish number for each picture or question. Great practice for recognising numbers quickly!

- Worksheets can be done during class time or for homework.
- Distribute one copy per student (or pair for collaborative work).
