1 - Welcome Weather Watchers
Have you ever looked out the window and wondered how to describe the weather in Spanish? Today we're becoming Spanish meteorologists who can talk about 'el tiempo' - that's Spanish for 'the weather'!
Just like Spanish weather forecasters on TVE, Spanish people check the weather every day to plan their day. Knowing these words will help you chat about sunny days, rainy afternoons, and everything in between.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Name 8 weather conditions in Spanish
- Spot which weather words are masculine (el) and which are feminine (la)
- Listen to a Spanish weather report and understand the main ideas
2 - Today's Weather Words
Here are today's new Spanish weather words. Click each one to hear how it's pronounced by a native Spanish speaker. Notice how some use el (masculine) and others use la (feminine) - Spanish weather has personalities too!
Try saying each word after you hear it. Which ones sound most like English weather words? Which ones are completely new to your ears?
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Digital Reference (Interactive)
- Display the Word Table on the whiteboard or let students access on their devices.
- Click/tap words to hear pronunciation - great for listening and speaking practice.
- Go through each word together, practising pronunciation as a class.

3 - Flashcard Forecast
Time to test your memory with weather flashcards! You'll see an English weather word first - try saying the Spanish version in your head before flipping the card. Which weather words can you remember already?
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Flashcards activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Great for self-paced vocabulary drilling. Students can flip cards and repeat until confident.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Click to flip cards and have the class say the word together. Use choral repetition for pronunciation practice.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Listen to the Forecast
Listen carefully to this Spanish weather report just like you'd hear on Spanish TV. Answer the questions by clicking the correct choice after each listening. Don't worry if you don't understand every word - focus on recognising the weather vocabulary you've just learned!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Listen & Answer activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students listen to audio and answer comprehension questions. They can replay audio as needed.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Play audio to the whole class, then discuss answers together. Replay tricky sections.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Weather Bingo
Get ready for weather bingo! Listen for the Spanish weather words you've learned and click them on your bingo card as you hear them. Work together to be the first to complete a line!
How to Play Bingo:
Option 1: Students on Devices (Digital Version)
- Use the digital version where your teacher view of the lesson displays the cards that are being called out.
- Play the pronunciation sound of each word and the children mark it off their unique digital bingo card.
- Each student has a randomised bingo card so winners will vary!
Option 2: Print Out the Bingo Cards
- Print out the Bingo Cards from the attachment above, cut out the cards, and give one to each student.
- You call out the vocabulary words and students mark off their sheets.
- First student to complete a line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) calls "Bingo!" and wins.
