Read through the Scratch the Cat Slideshow with your class.
The slideshow will remind students how to add motion blocks, change backgrounds and set up today's lesson, adding new characters!
Tell the students that todayβs challenge is to add a new character to their project. They will learn how to make Scratch the Cat go on an adventure with a friend!
Demonstrate how to add a second character to the project (Use our videos to show the class!):
It's important to teach the students how to code each character separately because in Scratch Junior, each character needs its own set of instructions. They will have to input the code for each character individually to make sure both Scratch and his friend move together correctly.
Explain that the challenge is to make both Scratch the Cat and the new character walk together across the beach background.
Show them our example of how to create a sequence of movement blocks for each character, making sure they move in sync. For example, both characters can have the same amount of "move forward" blocks.
Give the students time to create their walking sequences for both characters. Encourage them to experiment with different numbers and movements to see how they can make the characters walk smoothly together.
