1 - Nature Adventure
Have you ever wondered what the beautiful Irish landscapes would be called in Spanish? Today we're exploring la naturaleza - the natural world around us!
Spain has amazing natural places too - mountains like the Pyrenees, beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean, and forests full of adventure. When Spanish people talk about nature, they use words like 'el árbol' for tree and 'la flor' for flower.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Name 8 amazing nature features in Spanish
- Spot the difference between 'el' (masculine) and 'la' (feminine) words
- Recognise nature words from pictures and sounds
2 - Meet the Nature Words
Here are today's new Spanish words for nature! Click each word to hear how it's pronounced, then say it yourself. Notice how some words start with 'el' or 'la'.
Tip: Words with 'la' are feminine, 'el' is masculine. Can you spot which is which as you listen?
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Digital Reference (Interactive)
- Display the Word Table on the whiteboard or let students access on their devices.
- Click/tap words to hear pronunciation - great for listening and speaking practice.
- Go through each word together, practising pronunciation as a class.
Option 2: Printed Reference Sheet

3 - Flashcard Challenge
Time to test your memory! You'll see an English nature word first - try saying the Spanish word in your head before flipping the card. Say it out loud when you see if you're right!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Flashcards activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Great for self-paced vocabulary drilling. Students can flip cards and repeat until confident.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Click to flip cards and have the class say the word together. Use choral repetition for pronunciation practice.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Label Nature Scenes
Look carefully at each nature picture and click the correct Spanish label! There are three choices for each image - choose the best match. Listen to the options if you need help.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Label the Image activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students see an image and select the correct word from multiple choices. Good for visual learners.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Show the image and have students write their answer on mini whiteboards before revealing options.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Matching Pairs
Great memory workout! Flip the cards to match each Spanish nature word with its English translation. Work quickly but carefully - can you beat your personal best time?
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Matching Pairs activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students match words to their translations. Encourage them to say the words aloud as they match.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Make it competitive - time students or split class into teams. Have students justify their matches.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
