1 - Welcome to Furniture Shopping
Imagine you're shopping for furniture in Germany! Today you'll learn how to name all the important pieces you'll need to furnish your dream home.
German homes often have beautiful wooden furniture and cosy sofas perfect for family gatherings. You'll be able to describe your bedroom, living room, and study in German by the end of this lesson!
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Name 8 pieces of furniture in German
- Listen to someone describing their home
- Practise conversations about furniture and rooms
2 - Furniture Vocabulary
Here are the essential furniture words you'll need for your German home. Click each word to hear the pronunciation, then practise saying it yourself!
Notice how some words start with 'der' (masculine) and others with 'die' (feminine), just like the room names from last lesson. 'Wiederhole nach mir' means 'Repeat after me' - try it with each word!
How to Use This Activity:

3 - Flashcard Challenge
Test your memory! You'll see the English word first - can you remember the German before flipping the card? Say the word out loud to help it stick in your memory.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Flashcards activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Great for self-paced vocabulary drilling. Students can flip cards and repeat until confident.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Click to flip cards and have the class say the word together. Use choral repetition for pronunciation practice.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Home Tour Listening
Listen carefully to someone giving a tour of their German home. Answer the questions by clicking the correct option after each audio plays.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Listen & Answer activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students listen to audio and answer comprehension questions. They can replay audio as needed.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Play audio to the whole class, then discuss answers together. Replay tricky sections.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Room Tour Conversations
Work with a partner to practise giving room tours! Take turns being Person 1 and Person 2, using the furniture words you've learned.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Partner Practice activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students practise dialogue with a partner or family member. They can click to hear each phrase before repeating.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Pair students up to practise the dialogue. Model the conversation first with a volunteer, then have pairs practise.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
