1 - Welcome to Introductions
Have you ever met someone new and wanted to introduce yourself in German? Today you'll learn how to share your name confidently and ask others for theirs!
In Germany, introductions are important for making friends and polite conversations. Whether you're meeting a teacher, classmate, or new friend, these phrases will help you start conversations smoothly.
What you'll learn today:
- Ask 'What's your name?' in two ways
- Say 'My name is...' perfectly
- Ask 'And you?' to keep conversations going
2 - Flashcard Introductions
Let's meet these introduction phrases! You'll see the English first - try saying the German before flipping the card. Great pronunciation practice before we use them in real conversations!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Flashcards activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Great for self-paced vocabulary drilling. Students can flip cards and repeat until confident.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Click to flip cards and have the class say the word together. Use choral repetition for pronunciation practice.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
3 - Listen to Conversations
Now listen to real German conversations! You'll hear people meeting and introducing themselves. Answer the questions to check your understanding of the phrases we've learned.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Listen & Answer activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students listen to audio and answer comprehension questions. They can replay audio as needed.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Play audio to the whole class, then discuss answers together. Replay tricky sections.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Introduction Bingo
Time for Introduction Bingo! Listen carefully as German phrases are called out and mark them on your bingo card. Can you get a line or full house?
How to Play Bingo:
Option 1: Students on Devices (Digital Version)
- Use the digital version where your teacher view of the lesson displays the cards that are being called out.
- Play the pronunciation sound of each word and the children mark it off their unique digital bingo card.
- Each student has a randomised bingo card so winners will vary!
Option 2: Print Out the Bingo Cards
- Print out the Bingo Cards from the attachment above, cut out the cards, and give one to each student.
- You call out the vocabulary words and students mark off their sheets.
- First student to complete a line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) calls "Bingo!" and wins.
5 - Introduction Matching
Time for a written challenge! Your teacher will hand out worksheets. Match each English phrase to its German translation - perfect practice for today's vocabulary.
Worksheet Instructions:
- Print copies of this worksheet for your students before the lesson.
- Worksheets can be done during class time or for homework.
- Distribute one copy per student (or pair for collaborative work).
- The answer key is included at the end of the PDF - this is for teacher reference only.
