1 - Welcome to Pet Class

Do you have a pet at home? Maybe a dog that loves chasing balls, a cat that sleeps all day, or a fish swimming in a tank? Today we're learning how to name all these pets in German!

In Germany, people love their pets just like we do in Ireland. You'll hear dogs barking 'wau wau' and cats saying 'miau' - slightly different from English sounds!

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Name 8 popular pets in German
    • Spot which pets are 'der' (masculine), 'die' (feminine), or 'das' (neuter)
    • Recognise pets when you hear their German names

2 - Meet the German Pets

Here are 8 popular pets and how the Germans call them. Notice they use 'der' (dair) for masculine, 'die' (dee) for feminine, or 'das' (dahs) for neuter. Click each word to hear the correct German pronunciation.

    3 - Flashcard Challenge

FlashcardsSee the English pet name first and try saying the German before flipping the card! This is perfect for testing your memory of today's new pets.

4 - Listen to Pet Sounds

Listen & AnswerListen carefully to short conversations about pets and answer the questions. This helps you recognise the German pet names when you hear them spoken naturally!

    5 - Sort by Gender

Gender SortingDrag each pet into the correct column: 'Der' for masculine pets, 'Die' for feminine pets, or 'Das' for neuter pets. Can you remember which pets belong where?
