1 - Welcome to Colour Spotting
Imagine you're in a Spanish art class surrounded by paints, crayons, and paper. Today you'll learn how to name all the colours in Spanish so you can describe your artwork like a real Spanish artist!
Spain has famous artists like Picasso who painted beautiful scenes using these exact colours. Knowing colour names helps you chat about art, clothes, nature, and even football kits in Spanish.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Name 8 bright colours in Spanish
- Spot colours from pictures and sounds
- Match Spanish colour words to their English meanings
2 - Meet the Spanish Colours
Here are today's new Spanish colour words. Click each one to hear how a Spanish artist would say it, then repeat after the audio. Notice how some colours like 'Naranja' sound exactly like English!
Try to spot patterns - can you see which colours end with similar sounds? Spanish colours don't have 'el' or 'la' like nouns do, so they're simpler to learn.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Digital Reference (Interactive)
- Display the Word Table on the whiteboard or let students access on their devices.
- Click/tap words to hear pronunciation - great for listening and speaking practice.
- Go through each word together, practising pronunciation as a class.
Option 2: Printed Reference Sheet

- Print the vocabulary reference sheet for students to keep as a study aid.
- Great for homework, revision, or as a take-home reference.
- Students can use it alongside the interactive activity.
3 - Label the Colours
Look carefully at each colourful picture and click the Spanish colour name that matches it perfectly. You'll have four choices for each image - trust your eyes and ears!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Label the Image activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students see an image and select the correct word from multiple choices. Good for visual learners.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Show the image and have students write their answer on mini whiteboards before revealing options.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Colour Matching Pairs
Time for a memory challenge! Flip the cards to match each English colour to its Spanish partner. Can you remember where they all are? The faster you match, the higher your score!
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Matching Pairs activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students match words to their translations. Encourage them to say the words aloud as they match.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Make it competitive - time students or split class into teams. Have students justify their matches.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Class Colour Labeller
Your teacher will hand out worksheets with colourful pictures. Write the correct Spanish colour name under each picture using the word bank at the top. This is perfect practice for spotting colours just like Spanish artists do!
