1 - Welcome to Profile Time
Have you ever filled out one of those forms that ask 'What's your name? How old are you? Where do you live?' Today you're going to learn how to answer those questions in German!
Imagine you're writing an email to a German pen pal or filling out a form to join a German football team. These phrases will help you share who you are and what you like.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Tell someone your name, age and where you live in German
- Say what you like and don't like
- Share your birthday and favourite colour
2 - About Me Phrases
Let's spin to discover phrases for talking about yourself! Each spin reveals a new phrase you'll need for introducing yourself in German.
Notice how many phrases start with Ich - that's the German word for 'I'.
Click each phrase to hear how it sounds, then practise saying it with your own information. For example, if you live in Dublin, you'd say 'Ich wohne in Dublin' (I live in Dublin).
3 - Profile Bingo
Time for Profile Bingo! Listen carefully as words are called, then mark them on your bingo card. You'll hear the German phrases we've been learning.
This game helps you recognise the phrases when you hear them spoken naturally - perfect practice for conversations!
How to Play Bingo:
Option 1: Students on Devices (Digital Version)
- Use the digital version where your teacher view of the lesson displays the cards that are being called out.
- Play the pronunciation sound of each word and the children mark it off their unique digital bingo card.
- Each student has a randomised bingo card so winners will vary!
Option 2: Print Out the Bingo Cards
- Print out the Bingo Cards from the attachment above, cut out the cards, and give one to each student.
- You call out the vocabulary words and students mark off their sheets.
- First student to complete a line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) calls "Bingo!" and wins.
4 - Profile Flashcards
See the English phrase and try to say the German before flipping the card! These flashcards help you memorise the key phrases for talking about yourself.
Challenge yourself: can you add your own details after each phrase?
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Flashcards activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Great for self-paced vocabulary drilling. Students can flip cards and repeat until confident.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Click to flip cards and have the class say the word together. Use choral repetition for pronunciation practice.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Partner Interviews
Find a partner and practise your German introductions! Take turns asking and answering questions using today's phrases.
Person 1 asks first, Person 2 answers. Then swap roles. Listen carefully to your partner's answers and respond naturally.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Partner Practice activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students practise dialogue with a partner or family member. They can click to hear each phrase before repeating.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Pair students up to practise the dialogue. Model the conversation first with a volunteer, then have pairs practise.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
