1 - Welcome to Transport Time
Have you ever wondered how people travel in France? From fast trains to colourful buses, today we're discovering all the ways to get around en français!
France has one of the world's fastest trains called the TGV, and Paris has a huge Métro system. Knowing transport words helps when reading signs, asking directions, or planning trips.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Name 10 types of transport in French
- Sort transport words by masculine (le) and feminine (la)
- Talk about how you travel to school
2 - Meet the Transports
Here are today's new French transport words. Click each one to hear the perfect pronunciation from a native speaker, then say it out loud yourself!
Notice how some words start with 'le' (masculine) and some with 'la' (feminine) - this is French grammar in action. Most transport words are masculine, but watch for the feminine ones like 'La voiture' and 'La moto'.
How to Use This Activity:

3 - Flashcard Challenge
Great job learning the words! Now test your memory with flashcards. You'll see the English word first - try saying the French before flipping to check. Use the audio if you need a pronunciation reminder.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Flashcards activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Great for self-paced vocabulary drilling. Students can flip cards and repeat until confident.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Click to flip cards and have the class say the word together. Use choral repetition for pronunciation practice.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
4 - Sort by Gender
Time to practise French grammar! Drag each transport word into the correct column: 'Le' for masculine words or 'La' for feminine words. Listen to the audio if you're not sure about the article.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Gender Sorting activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students drag words into the correct gender category. Helps reinforce article patterns.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Ask students to explain WHY they think a word is masculine/feminine before revealing the answer.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
5 - Partner Travel Talk
Find a partner and practise real conversations! Take turns being Person 1 and Person 2. Click the audio buttons to hear each line perfectly pronounced, then say it to your partner.
How to Use This Activity:
Option 1: Students on Devices
- Students complete the Partner Practice activity on their own laptop or tablet.
- Students practise dialogue with a partner or family member. They can click to hear each phrase before repeating.
- Walk around the room to monitor progress and assist students who need help.
Option 2: Teacher-Led (Whiteboard/Projector)
- Display the activity on your interactive whiteboard or projector.
- Pair students up to practise the dialogue. Model the conversation first with a volunteer, then have pairs practise.
- Invite students up to interact with the board, or have them call out answers from their desks.
