Take three hands-up answers for each object, not open call-outs. Draw out the words side and corner if pupils use them, but don't correct yet.

• Triangle — three sides, three corners; reveal the numbered sides and let the class check.
• Square — four equal sides; hold out for pupils to notice the sides are the same length.
• Pentagon — count round carefully; pupils lose count past four.
• Hexagon — reveal the count, then ask what stays the same if I turn it on its side? before moving on.

Point at each corner as the class names it — a vertex is where two sides meet.

Talk this one through together — pupils take turns at the board and the class agrees or corrects out loud.
