First, write your format and your two universal design priorities at the top of a blank A4 page.
Warm-up
If the examiner saw only your first slide, what should they understand in three seconds?
- A low-fidelity sketch is a rough plan on paper with boxes, titles and labels.
- Structure before polish means you plan the order of your slides before colours or fonts.
- A universal design label is a note on your sketch that shows where each priority will appear.
- Your VET audience is the examiner.
Aoife's five slides for her coffee-cart pitch are Hook, Problem, Offer, Numbers and Ask. On slide 1 she wrote "Big text, dark on light".
Messy is fine if it is clear.

Keep it rough. Use boxes, short titles and labels only, with no colours or icons.
- My sketch is getting fancy. Rub out colours and icons, and keep only boxes, titles and labels.
- I forgot my two priorities. Open {{code:sm2_universal_design_check}} from lesson 38, or ask your teacher.
- My photo is blurry. Take it again from straight above in good light.
- My format is video or audio. Draw a strip of frames instead of slide boxes.
Independent Practice
- Write your format and two universal design priorities at the top.
- Draw a box for each slide or frame, with a short title in each.
- Circle the opening box.
- Label both priorities with what you will do.
- Add one note about contrast, text size, alt text or captions.
Show your teacher when you're done. Don't open any software yet.
- Every box has a short title.
- Both priorities are labelled with what I will do.
- The opening box is circled and an access note is on the page.
- Someone else can tell my format from the page.
