Watch carefully. How many fingers stayed folded down? How did you know so fast?
A bond of 10 is a pair of numbers that join to make exactly ten, like 6 and 4. Four ten-frames are on the board. Each one has some counters already in place. Look at the empty spaces: they show the missing friend that makes ten.
For each frame, say the pair aloud: the counters that are in, and the empty spaces that make the friend.
Some counters are already in the frame. One pupil at a time works at the board. Everyone else watches the empty spaces and says the pair together.
On the board you can see 6 + 4 = 10. In your maths copy, write two different pairs that make 10, like that.
We work through these together on the board. One pupil fills the empty spaces. Everyone else watches and names the missing friend before the frame is filled.
First: 8 are in. Then: 5 are in. Then: 3 are in. The empty spaces tell you the friend.
