This lesson focuses on number bonds for six and seven. You will see how these numbers can be split into two parts that add together to make the whole. The parts may differ but the total remains unchanged.

    1 - Getting Started ~3 mins

    2 - Watch and Notice ~8 mins

    A number bond is a picture of a whole split into two parts. The whole sits at the top. The two parts sit below.

    Here are three bonds of six. In every picture the whole is six. The parts are different.

    Here are two bonds of seven. In every picture the whole is seven. The parts are different.

    3 - Try It Together ~8 mins

    Today we make 6 with two parts on the board. Friends take turns. After each pair, we all say both parts and the whole aloud to check.

    4 - Draw Two Bonds in Your Copy ~3 mins

    • Whole 6 at the top. Parts 3 and 3 below.
