A bond is two parts that join to make a number. Here are bonds for 8, then for 9. Keep your eye on the whole: it stays still. Notice what changes in one part when the other part is bigger.
Today we make bonds of 8 and 9. The pupil at the board builds the bond. Everyone else says the two parts aloud before we check the whole.
