Painted handprints along a corridor wall. How many fingers made all those handprints? Could we count a hand at a time (5, 10, 15…) instead of one finger after another?
Four handprints on the hundred square: 5, 10, 15 and 20 are already shaded, one hand at a time. Next to it is the same square with every count-in-fives number shaded. Stand back. Do you see two tidy columns (stripes) of shaded numbers running down the square?
Today we explore: we chant in fives while someone shades the next number on the hundred square. Start from 5 and keep going. Say the next number in our fives count before each shade goes on.
In your maths copy, write these numbers in one careful line:
Together on the hundred square. Before each shade, say whether the number will end in 5 or in 0, and how you know.
