    1 - Today's Forecast in One Sentence ~5 mins

Illustration for Today's forecast in one sentenceHands up: say your one-sentence English forecast when the teacher calls you. Include the weather and roughly how warm or cold it feels. Keep it short, the way a real forecast sounds on the radio.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Give a short French weather forecast with a temperature
    • Spot what French forecasts care about compared with Irish ones

    2 - Eight Weather Words ~10 mins

Here are today's eight weather words. Tap each one, listen, then say it back together. Notice the article on each noun: le, la, or l'.

Then learn our forecast frame. We join one weather word to a temperature:

Aujourd'hui : la pluie. Il fait douze degrés. (oh-zhoor-DWEE : lah PLWEE. eel feh dooz duh-GRAY)

That means: Today: rain. It is twelve degrees.

3 - Match the Weather Pairs ~10 mins

Match each French weather word to its meaning. Say the French aloud as you find each pair. Listen for the article: le, la, or l'.

    4 - Into Your Copy ~3 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

Open your copy. Write today's forecast in French in two short lines, using the board frame. Choose one weather word from today and a temperature number you know.

    Frame: Aujourd'hui : ______ . Il fait ______ degrés.

Example: Aujourd'hui : le vent. Il fait dix degrés.

    5 - Label the Météo-france Map ~10 mins

We label tonight's Météo-France board together. Pictures show the weather for two places: Brest (Atlantic north-west) and Marseille (sunny south). When it is your turn, say the French word aloud before we lock the label. Everyone else whisper-says it from their seat.
