Warm-up

Think of the last post, video or slide that made you stop scrolling. What made you stop? Was it the layout, the colours or the main point?

Your teacher will show you four formats: a slide deck, a visual pitch, an infographic and a short vertical video.

Look for four design principles in each one. Designers call them CRAP.

• Contrast makes the most important thing stand out.
• Repetition uses the same fonts and colours all the way through.
• Alignment lines things up along the same edge.
• Proximity keeps things that belong together close together.

Example

On a VET slide, the title is big and dark, and the other text is smaller. That is contrast.

Put your marker where you stand on each statement. There is no right answer. When you share, name an example from the tour and the CRAP word that goes with it.

Common issues

• I can't name a principle. Pick the CRAP word that matches what you noticed first.
• Every format seems right. The VET interview is a spoken talk, so a slide deck is a safe choice.
• My notes just retell the tour. Start each principle line with "I will…" and say how you will use it in your own project.
