Today you will

• fix a project name that is spelt in different ways
• use Match case so Find checks capital letters
• take leftover draft formatting off your newsletter

If Replace ever changes the wrong word, just press Undo.

Warm-up

Have you ever typed your project name two different ways in the same document? What would a Work Experience supervisor think if they saw both?

Match case means Find only finds words with the same capital letters as your search.

Replace changes one match at a time, so you can check each one first.

Replace All changes every match at once, so only use it when you are sure.

Example

The right name is Portlaoise Repair Café. These lines spell it three ways:

• Join the Portlaoise Repair Cafe.
• Volunteers at the portlaoise repair café.
• Email the Portlaoise Repair Café team.

With Match case, you can fix each one so all three match.

You will clean four sample lines that spell Portlaoise Repair Café in different ways. This is practice, and you will fix your own newsletter next. Watch your teacher first, then follow the steps in the box below.

If something goes wrong

• Replace All changed the wrong words. Press {{kbd:Ctrl+Z}} ({{kbd:Cmd+Z}} on a Mac) straight away, then replace one match at a time.
• Match case finds nothing. Check the capital letters and the accent in the Find box. In Word Online, click the gear or More options to see Match case.
• You can't type é. Copy {{code:Café}} from a line that already has it.
