    1 - Getting Started ~3 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedSix sweets for Aoife and Sam. Share them fairly: one for you, one for me. How many does each friend get?

    2 - Watch and Notice ~7 mins

Watch six counters shared fairly: one for you, one for me, until none are left. Both piles match: that match is half. Then four, then ten. The diagram shows the whole group and the two shares.

    3 - Try It Together ~8 mins

Your turn at the board. Help Aoife and Sam get the same amount: split 4, 6, 8 or 10 into two matching shares. We check both sides match before the next group.

4 - Write Half of 6 in Your Copy ~2 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

Write it in your maths copy like a mathematician: half of 6 is ___.

    5 - Class Challenge ~8 mins

Fair shares only. If the parts do not match, it is not a half. Four halves to find: 4, 6, 8 and 10. Find the missing part so both shares match.
