Today is the last CSPE class in this course. You hand in your Citizenship Action Record, then look back at the whole stretch of work: the three strands, the three actions, and what changed in how you see your own part in things.
This is not a test. It is a proper close. By the end you will have submitted your record, named what the course actually gave you, and left one clear piece of advice for next year's class.
2 - Three Strands, Three Actions ~6 mins
CSPE had three strands. Each one ended in something the class actually did.
On the board:
- Rights and responsibilities
- Global citizenship
- Exploring democracy
For each strand, one student names the action the class ran under it. Keep each answer to under a minute.
The Citizenship Action Record is the assessment for this short course. Each of you records one of those three actions: your own role, the evidence, and your reflections. There is no written exam. The record is what gets reported.
Today you hand that record in, then look back over the whole course and say what it gave you.
3 - Hand It in, Walk It Back, Leave a Line ~21 mins
1. Hand in your Action Record (about 7 minutes)
Follow your teacher's instructions for how the Citizenship Action Record is collected in this school. Use the set route only; when yours is in, you are done with the assessment piece.
2. Walk the course back (about 7 minutes)
As a class, work through these two prompts out loud. Keep your answers short.
- The charter you agreed. Name one right and one responsibility from it that still feel usable on an ordinary school day.
- The three citizenship actions. For the set as a whole, name one thing that actually changed afterwards, and one thing that did not.
3. One line for next year (about 4 minutes)
On your own, write one or two sentences answering this:
If a student starting this course next year asked what it is really for, I would tell them…
Be specific. Point at something you did, argued, built or changed, not a vague value. Your teacher will keep these lines in an envelope for next year's induction, so the advice actually reaches someone.
4. One shared change (about 3 minutes)
As a class, agree one thing you would do differently if you ran the three actions again. Write that single sentence where the class can see it. No list; one decision.
4 - Make Sense of It ~5 mins
Talk these through as a class. You do not need to write them down.
- What has this whole course changed about how you see your own part in the school or the local area?
- Looking at the one thing the class would do differently on the actions, what does that tell you about what makes an action real?
- Which strand still feels unfinished in your head, and what would you still like to understand?
5 - What You Covered ~4 mins
In this lesson you:
- submitted your Citizenship Action Record
- walked back the charter and the three citizenship actions
- wrote one clear line of advice for a student starting this course next year
- agreed one thing the class would do differently if it ran its actions again
- named what the course has changed about how you see your own part in things
That is the close of the course: understand, judge, act, and be able to say what any of it was for.
