1 - Which Sport Wins the Class Vote? ~5 mins
Which sport does this class play most? Defend your sport: can football beat swimming in this room? Take a quick show of hands for your favourite. You already meet days of the week again today. By the end you will join a sport to a day in one short Spanish sentence.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Name eight sports in Spanish
- Say which sport you play and on which day
- Listen to a short park chat and answer questions
2 - Eight Spanish Sports ~10 mins
Here are today's eight sports. Tap each one, listen, then say it back together.
Two sentence frames (keep both on the board):
- Juego al fútbol los lunes (I play football on Mondays). Use Juego al… with ball and team sports: fútbol, baloncesto, tenis, voleibol, hockey, béisbol. Tip: al is a + el.
- Hago natación los miércoles (I go swimming on Wednesdays). Use Hago… only with natación and ciclismo.
Days we recycle today: lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo.
3 - Label the Polideportivo ~10 mins
This is a school polideportivo in Valencia: the indoor sports centre where Spanish pupils train after class. Look at the picture and help choose the correct Spanish label for each sport you can see. Say the Spanish quietly with its el or la as each label is chosen.
4 - Say It, Then Into Your Copy ~3 mins
First, say it. Your teacher will name a day. Answer with a full sentence using today’s frames: Juego al fútbol los lunes or Hago natación los miércoles. You just heard the same pattern in the park chat. Then whisper one sentence to your partner.
Then write. Open your copy and write one or two full sentences saying which sport you play and on which day. Keep the model sentences and the days list on the board. Take care with accents and with el or la.

5 - At the Park ~10 mins
Two friends meet in Madrid’s Parque del Retiro after training: one still has a club scarf on. We will listen to their park conversation twice as a class. Then answer the questions together. Listen out for sports and days you know.
