Get a pencil from the person beside you without speaking. Now show thanks without speaking. How did you do it?
Watch each card on the board. Listen carefully, then say the English, Irish and French please and thank-you cards back together as a class.
When you hear German, Spanish, or any sorry card, show thumbs up if it sounded a bit like English, and thumbs sideways if it sounded new. No need to say those back yet.
Look at the big bingo card on the board. When you hear a polite phrase from today's languages, tick the matching square on your scrap paper or mini whiteboard.
We will try one practice call first so everyone knows how to mark. When the class has filled a line together, we celebrate with our silent thank-you gesture.

On the Europe map we will find where English, Irish, French, German and Spanish are spoken.
Hands up when you spot Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, or a place that uses more than one of them. A volunteer can come and point on the board.
