Look at our classroom clock on the wall. What do you notice? What do you wonder? That clock helps us know when it is home time.
Three clocks on the board. First find the numbers 1 to 12 around the face. 12 sits at the top, 6 at the bottom, 3 on the right and 9 on the left.
A clock has two hands. The short hand is the hour hand: it points to the hour. The long hand is the minute hand: at o'clock it points straight up at 12.
Let's explore the clock face together. One pupil at the board points to 8, then to 4, then shows the short hand and the long hand. Everyone else watches and says if it looks right.
In your maths copy, draw a circle. Write 12 at the top and 6 at the bottom to start a clock face. Done enough is the circle plus 12 and 6.
Let's find the numbers and name the hands. One pupil at the board follows each prompt. Watch the board and say if the pointer is on the right spot.
