Numbers 11 to 20 (Los Números)

In this lesson you will learn to count from eleven to twenty in Spanish. Pay attention to how some numbers are made by joining smaller ones together. Take part in games and speaking practice to use these numbers confidently.

    1 - Something Changes After Ten ~5 mins

    Next we will hear Spanish count from eleven to twenty. From sixteen onwards, listen carefully for parts that sound stuck together, like a number built from smaller pieces.

    By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

    • Count from eleven to twenty in Spanish
    • Spot which numbers are built from smaller parts
    • Keep a spoken count going past ten

    2 - Numbers to Twenty ~10 mins

    Key point

    English on the front. Tap the audio first, then repeat the Spanish together twice. After that, try saying it from memory before you flip.

    Tip

    We will meet eleven to fifteen first, pause on the pattern, then take sixteen to twenty. From sixteen onwards, listen for the piece that sounds like ten joined to a smaller number.

    3 - Number Bingo ~10 mins

    Your card shows the digits 11 to 20. Listen for each number in Spanish and mark the matching digit. When you finish a full line, shout Bingo.

    Watch out

    Stay sharp once the calls climb past fifteen: the dieci- numbers can sound alike at first.

    4 - Into Your Copy ~3 mins

    Copy the Spanish words for 11 to 20 from the board list, then circle the ones built from two smaller numbers (hint: from 16 up).

    5 - Spin, Point and Count on ~10 mins

    Imagine a market stall piled with fruit, stickers or classroom chairs numbered 11 to 20. Spin the wheel. Say the number it lands on in Spanish, point to that number on the strip, then count on up to three more, stopping at veinte if you reach it. The next spin goes to someone else.
