Look at this clock. It says exactly 3 o'clock. Home time is close! Where are the two hands pointing right now?
Look at the first clock. The long hand is the longer one. It tells the minutes. The short hand is the shorter one. It tells the hour.
Where is the long hand? Where is the short hand? Be ready to say the time.
Watch this last one carefully. Both hands are together at the top.
At every o'clock the minutes are zero. The long hand sits straight up on 12, back at the start. The short hand points at the hour.
Today we set the hands together. I will call an o'clock time. One of you sets both hands on the board, and the class reads the time back.
In your maths copy, draw a simple clock circle. Mark 12 at the top and 3 on the side. Write 3 o'clock. Draw the long hand straight up to 12 and the short hand pointing at 3.
One pupil sets each time on the board. Everyone else watches and checks: is the long hand on 12? We set 2 o'clock, then 6 o'clock, then 9 o'clock, then 11 o'clock.
