    1 - Introduction ~5 mins

Today you will plan a website for the investigation you already started. You won't build the website today.

    Today you will

    • decide if a website suits your reader
    • sketch four pages: Home, About, Findings and Sources
    • save your sketch in your portfolio

    Warm-up

Think of a website where you found an answer quickly. What helped you trust it?

    2 - Key Concepts ~5 mins

    A four-page site map

A website is a set of linked pages. Yours will have four.

    • Home is the front door. It asks your question and links to the other pages.
    • About says who wrote the site and who it is for.
    • Findings shows your main points with evidence.
    • Sources lists where your facts came from.

A website suits readers who want detail and sources. For a quick hook on a phone, a short post is better.

    Example

A coffee-cart Home page asks: "Can a local coffee-cart side hustle break even in six months?"

3 - Quick Match: Page Jobs ~3 mins

    Match the pages

With a partner, match each letter to a job number. Be ready to say why.

    Pages

    • A: Home page
    • B: About page
    • C: Findings page
    • D: Sources page

    Format

    • E: A website, not a post

    Jobs

    • 1: Lists full references so readers can check claims.
    • 2: Hooks the reader and links to everything else.
    • 3: Suits readers who want lots of detail and sources.
    • 4: Says who wrote it and who it is for.
    • 5: Shows the main points and evidence clearly.

    4 - Step-by-step Task ~12 mins

Watch your teacher build a website sketch for the coffee-cart example. You don't need to copy it all, because you'll make your own sketch in the next task. Follow the steps in the box below as you watch.

    5 - Common Issues ~3 mins

    Common issues

    • My pages only have headings. Add a purpose line and three bullets under each page.
    • I can't choose between a website and a post. If your reader needs lots of detail and your sources, pick a website.
    • My file is in the wrong folder. Open {{code:sm4}} first, then make the document from inside it.
