- make the file small enough to send
- keep the version you can still edit beside it
Your working file should be in {{code:Project_Portfolio/09_specialism/sm2/}}. If it isn't there yet, tell your teacher and use your practice file for now.
Warm-up
Has someone ever sent you a file you couldn't open? What went wrong?
A publication copy is the finished file you hand over, like a PDF or an MP4.
The editable source is the working file you can still change, like your slide deck or Canva design.
A format match means picking the file type that suits how people will use it. Slides become a PDF, video becomes an MP4, audio becomes an MP3, and an infographic becomes a PNG or PDF.
For example, you hand over {{code:sm2_vet_presentation.pdf}} and keep your editable deck right beside it in {{code:sm2/}}.
Watch your teacher first. Then save your practice file, {{code:sm2_edit_practice_YourName}}, as a PDF with the steps below.
For a video, audio or infographic, export your practice copy in its own app. In CapCut, click {{btn:Export}} and pick 1080p. In Canva, click {{btn:Share}}, then {{btn:Download}}. For audio, save an MP3.
If a file is over about 20 MB, make it smaller or share a link.
Common issues
- I can't find my editable file. Look in {{code:sm2/}}, your Downloads folder and the bin.
- The PDF cuts off the edges. Fix the slide in the source and export again.
- My file is too big to send. Export again at medium quality, or share a cloud link.
- I can't find Export or Download. Open the file from your own {{code:sm2/}} folder, then look under {{btn:File}}.
Independent Practice
- Export it in the right format for your piece.
- Save it in {{code:sm2/}} with the right name from the box below.
- Open it and check it. If something is wrong, fix the source and export again.
- Check the file size. Will you attach it or share a link?
- Make a document called {{code:sm2_vet_handoff}} in {{code:sm2/}} and fill in the three lines below.
