    1 - Getting Started ~4 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedHere are two clocks. One shows 2 o'clock. The other shows 3 o'clock.

How long is it from the first clock to the second clock? How could you work it out?

    2 - Watch and Notice ~9 mins

Watch as the teacher shows each start and finish pair on the board. We count on from the start hand to the finish hand to see how much time has passed.

Some finish times land on a whole hour, and some land on a half past or a quarter past. Notice how far the minute hand has moved on each one.

    3 - Try It Together ~11 mins

    Key point

Today we count on from the start hand to the finish hand and say how long has passed.

    • 4 o'clock → 5 o'clock
    • 2 o'clock → half past 2
    • 9 o'clock → quarter past 9
    • 12 o'clock → half past 12

Count on from start to finish

4 - Write the Times in Your Copy ~3 mins

    COPYBOOK MOMENT

In your maths copy, write three "start time → finish time → time passed" lines for the examples the teacher displays. Fill in the time that has passed on each line.

    5 - Class Challenge ~8 mins

Today we count on to find how long each activity lasts:

    • Lunch: 12 o'clock → half past 12
    • PE: 3 o'clock → half past 3
    • Reading: 10 o'clock → quarter past 10
    • Art: 2 o'clock → quarter past 2
