Look at this pancake flipping in the pan. Is it still the same pancake when it lands? What changed, and what stayed the same?
Three moves a shape can make: a slide, a flip, and a turn.
A slide moves the shape to a new place without turning it.
A flip turns it over like a pancake, so it faces the other way. The dashed line is the mirror line.
A turn spins it round on the spot. A half turn points it the opposite way.
After every move, ask: is it still the same shape? What stayed the same?
You each have a cut-out triangle on your desk. Watch the teacher do one move first. When the teacher names a move, everyone does that same move with their own triangle. Then we say together what changed and what stayed the same.
In your maths copy, draw a triangle pointing up. Under it, draw the same triangle after a half turn, pointing down.
Keep your cut-out triangle ready. The teacher will name each challenge. Everyone does the move at their desk, then we name the move and say what stayed the same.
