Think of sharing a snack. Sometimes one person gets a big bit and the other gets a tiny bit. That does not feel fair.
Today we look for fair shares in pictures: real halves where both parts are the same size.
Four pictures will land one at a time into two groups: Is a half and Not a half.
Before each picture moves, decide which group it belongs in. The check is always the same: are the two parts equal (the same size)?
We sort pictures into Is a half or Not a half.

For each picture ask: are the two parts the same size? Then drag it into the matching group.
Use page 109 of the Student Activity Book at your table. The six pictures are:
Put each picture into Is a half or Not a half.
Before you place a picture, check: are the two parts the same size?
In your maths copy, finish this sentence:

If you have time, add one not-a-half: _____ is not a half because one part is bigger.
