Our question today: what is your favourite fruit: apple, banana or orange? Let's find out what the whole class thinks.
A tally is counting with marks. Each vote is one stroke. At five, we draw a line across four strokes to make a little gate of five.
Watch two finished tallies. Find every gate of five, then read each row as a number.
Hands up for apple. We count the hands together, then put that many strokes in the apple row.
Same for banana and orange. When a row reaches five, we make a gate.
In your maths copy, write the three fruit words: apple, banana and orange.
Under each word, copy the tally strokes from the board.
Look at the strokes in each row. How many votes does each answer have?
Which answer has the most? Which has the fewest?
