Warm-up

Which of the two would you be happy to hand to a real adult tomorrow?

Tightening means small, careful fixes, not a rewrite.

Review markup means tracked changes and comments still left in a file.

A manual proof is a slow read by you, to catch what spell-check misses.

The six checks

• Columns and layout
• Orientation, only for a wide table or picture
• One project name all the way through
• € signs and fadas
• Review markup cleared
• Spell-check and a slow read

Example

Aoife's newsletter spelled her business two ways. She used Find and Replace to change "Case craft" to "CaseCraft" everywhere.

You will copy your newsletter, then run the six checks on the copy. Follow the steps in the box below.

If a check already passes, tick it and move on. Only fix what fails.

If you get stuck

• If a document is missing, search {{code:sm1/}} for {{code:sm1_doc1}} or {{code:sm1_doc2}} and tell your teacher.
• If Replace changed the wrong word, press {{kbd:Ctrl+Z}} and replace one at a time.
• In Word, if every page after your table went landscape, add a section break after it and choose Portrait.
• If tracked changes won't go away, accept or reject each one. Hiding them is not enough.
