Warm-up
Picture the interview room. What one thing would make you feel ready when you open your file on someone else's machine?
If you don't have format 1 yet, tell your teacher straight away.
Key words
Format 1 is the finished piece from your Something Real project, like a slide deck or a video.
A dress rehearsal is a full run, out loud, just like the real interview.
A publication copy is a PDF, MP4 or MP3 that opens on any machine.
Your VET readiness check is a short page on what is ready and what needs a fix.
Under the first heading you might write: [Your project name], five-slide deck, file {{code:sm2_ka1_format1.pptx}}.
Common issues
- My file won't open. Open your PDF, MP4 or MP3 copy from {{code:sm2}} instead.
- The big screen cuts off my slides. Start the slideshow or video in full screen before you speak.
- I freeze or run too long. Practise just your opening line twice, then start again.
- I have no PDF, MP4 or MP3 copy. Tell your teacher at the start of the rehearsal.
Your goal
Run your format 1 all the way through with a partner, just like on interview day.
- Open your format 1 from {{code:Project_Portfolio}}, then {{code:09_specialism}}, then {{code:sm2}}.
- Start it properly. In PowerPoint, click {{btn:Slideshow}}. In Google Slides, click {{btn:Present}}. For a video or audio clip, check the volume, then go back to the start.
- Partner A stands and presents for 2 to 3 minutes. Partner B listens without interrupting.
- Partner B gives two notes: one strength and one thing to improve.
- Swap roles and do it again.
On a Chromebook, don't press {{kbd:F5}}, because it reloads the page.
Success criteria
- I ran my piece from start to finish.
- My file started cleanly.
- I gave my partner one strength and one fix.
Your goal
Make a short page that shows you are ready for your VET interview.
- Make a new document in {{code:sm2}} called {{code:sm2_vet_readiness_check}}.
- Type the four headings from the box below.
- Under each heading, add short bullets from today's rehearsal.
- Under the last heading, list your last fixes and when you will do them.
