Pupils use a calendar and a day wheel to name the day before and after any given day in the week. Through practice they learn to identify yesterday and tomorrow and notice the looping pattern from Sunday back to Monday.

    1 - Getting Started ~4 mins

Illustration for Getting StartedGood morning. Look at our calendar. Today is the day with the red circle. Yesterday is the day just before today: the day that has already finished. Tomorrow is the day just after today: the day still to come. What day was yesterday? What day is tomorrow?

    2 - Watch and Notice ~8 mins

The wheel lands on a day. The day just before it is yesterday. The day just after it is tomorrow. For each landing, name yesterday and tomorrow.

Watch this last landing carefully. After Sunday the seven days begin again at Monday. The days go round and round.

    3 - Try It Together ~10 mins

Today we spin the day wheel. When it lands, name the day before (yesterday) and the day after (tomorrow). We will try Monday, then Wednesday, then Saturday, then Sunday.

In your maths copy, write one careful line: yesterday was ___, today is ___, tomorrow is ___.

    5 - Class Challenge ~8 mins

We spin the day wheel again. For each landing, name yesterday, tomorrow, or both, as I ask. Listen carefully when we land on Sunday.
