    1 - Introduction ~4 mins

    Illustration for Introduction

    Today you will

    • pick one real project to work on all year, which we call your Something Real project
    • make the folders your work will go in
    • write a short plan with three goals
    Warm-up

If you did Introduction to ICT, you can keep the project you started there. If you're new, pick one of these to start with:

    • a CV for a part-time job
    • a Work Experience report
    • a community project

    2 - Your Specialism Journey ~5 mins

You'll work on the same project all year, across four modules, and everything you make goes into your portfolio.

    ModuleWhat you'll make
SM1 Word processingDocuments for your project
SM2 PresentationsSlides you'll present at your interview for the Vocational Education Task (VET)
SM3 SpreadsheetsSheets and charts with your project's numbers
SM4 Online researchA short investigation about your project
Key Assignments are the two pieces of work from each module that go into your portfolio to show what you can do.

3 - Build the Specialism Folders and Sample Plan ~13 mins

Watch your teacher do this first, then follow the steps for your app and tick each one as you go.

This is only a practice file, so its name ends in {{code:_sample}}. You'll write your real plan in the next task.

    Example plan

Something Real project: Work Experience at a local Centra

    Status: Plan

    Module 1 goals:

    1. Make a price list for five products.
    2. Type and fix a newsletter about my placement.
    3. Use a table to show item, price and notes.

    Notes: (empty for now)

    4 - Common Issues ~3 mins

    If you get stuck

    • If you can't find {{code:Project_Portfolio}}, type its name into the search box at the top.
    • If a file ends up in the wrong place, move it into {{code:sm1}}.
    • If a folder has the wrong name, right-click it and choose Rename.

    5 - Independent Practice ~25 mins

    Independent Practice

Your goal: Write your real plan for Module 1.
    Time: ~25 minutes
    Task:
    1. In {{code:sm1}}, make a new document called {{code:sm1_specialism_plan}}.
    2. Type the same four headings you used in your sample.
    3. Under the first two headings, write your project's name and how far along it is.
    4. Under Module 1 goals, write three goals. These starters will help:

    "Make a ___ for ___" · "Type and fix a ___ about ___" · "Use a table to ___"

If you don't have a project yet, ask your teacher to help you pick one.

    Success criteria:
    • My four folders, {{code:sm1}} to {{code:sm4}}, are there.
    • {{code:sm1_specialism_plan}} is saved in {{code:sm1}}.
    • My plan is about my own project, not the Centra example.
    • Each of my three goals names a document I will make.

    6 - Reflection ~5 mins

    Think about

    • Which of your goals will be the hardest for you?
    • What help would you like from your teacher?

Be ready to tell the class your project's name and one of your goals.

    7 - Lesson Summary ~5 mins

    What you covered

    • I can name my Something Real project.
    • I can make my folders: {{code:09_specialism}}, with {{code:sm1}} to {{code:sm4}} inside it.
    • I can write a plan with three goals.

    Finished early?

Under Notes in your plan, write down two people who might see your finished work, with one line about each.
