  1. Master place value, decimals to thousandths, and negative numbers to read, compare, order, round and manipulate large and small quantities confidently
  2. Develop computational fluency with whole numbers, decimals and fractions using mental strategies, written methods and the order of operations
  3. Work fluently across fractions, decimals and percentages, converting between them and solving problems involving equivalence, discounts and increases
  4. Apply ratio, proportion and scaling to share quantities, solve recipes and real-life proportional problems using the unitary method
  5. Use precise measurement skills to calculate perimeter, area, volume, capacity and mass while converting between metric units and solving contextual problems

Learning Outcomes

  1. Read, write and compare whole numbers up to millions and decimals to thousandths using place-value columns.
  2. Add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals to thousandths, including using mental strategies and long multiplication and division.
  3. Simplify, compare, add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages.
  4. Solve ratio and proportion problems using equivalent ratios, the unitary method and scaling in recipes and mixtures.
  5. Calculate perimeter, area of rectangles, triangles and compound shapes, and volume of cubes and cuboids while converting between metric units.
